Shaving part of all of your pubic hair has been practised for centuries. There are records of pubic hair fashion dating from the mid nineteenth century of photography, in those rare few archive photos that show full frontal nudity the amount of pubic hair varies from full to none.

Since around the 1980’s porn films have moved away from the “bushy nympho” trend of long, thick pubes to variable amounts of well groomed, to totally bare genitals. Getting Started with Pubic Shaving

If you have long pubic hairs it’s well worth trimming to begin with, using small, non pointy scissors which are safer. Pubic Shaving Tips

If you are using a razor, always use a new blade. Old blades take more strokes which can irritate skin and increase the chance of you cutting yourself. They can also spread infection which won’t end up with the super smooth look you want!

Stroke the area no more than twice to reduce irritation. On the first stroke go with the growth to remove most of the hair then go once against the growth for a smooth, close shave. If you find this leads to ingrown hairs, stop this practise next time around and go with the growth on both strokes or you could end up with painful and itchy, unsightly ingrown hairs.

Try an un-perfumed (fragrance-free) talc or baby powder. Just a small amount daily helps to keep the area dry and irritation free. Again, if irritation does occur you can stop for a few days then start again, you may find your skin adapts.

Sensitive Skin and Pubic Shaving

People with sensitive skin may wish to avoid shaving for the same reasons. Again, if you chose to shave, consider shaving cream made for sensitive skin and use a hypoallergenic moisturizer afterwards.

Consider closely trimming or waxing instead. There is a fantastic products on the market for this very purpose and whilst they don’t give you the totally hair-free look of pubic shaving, they offer other benefits such as pubic hair styling and a nil risk of irritation.

Reversing the Trend

Letting your hairs grow again after shaving can be irritating. If you are sick of the smooth look you may find that the sharp hairs combined with the more sensitive skin is uncomfortable. However again this reduces with time.
